Dual Design

Serena & Lily’s creative director Serena Dugan shows us how to bring some adult influences into your nursery with 5 fall picks.

Sometimes nursery decor stumps even the most confident designer in all of us. Meeting baby? So exciting! Sacrificing large swaths of your apartment for him? Not so much. In a city like New York, where every square inch of usable space counts, the thought of transforming your chic spare bedroom into a nursery covered with cutesy farm animals can be absolutely devastating. That’s why we’re huge fans of Serena & Lily, whose chic nursery decor is eye candy for grown-ups too.

Serena Dugan, who co-founded the company with Lily Kanter and serves as chief creative officer, assures us that a nursery can be an extension of your personal living space. “I believe that when it comes to designing your nursery, you should always stay true to your sense of style. You will spend many of your waking moments in this room over the next few years, so you will want to make it a family space that you will want to inhabit.”

When Dugan designs Serena & Lily’s baby collections, she says, her process is similar to that of designing for the rest of the home. Pieces are “fresh and style-driven, and not shy of color and pattern — which is how I approach designing for our core line as well.” So it should come as no surprise then that much of the core Serena & Lily line would also go great in a nursery.

Below, Dugan picks some of her favorite pieces from both the baby and core Serena & Lily Fall collections to help you create a nursery that’s as much for mom as it is for baby.
