It’s Vintage…

The art of thrifting doesn’t end in the first trimester. Thrift-maven and NYC entrepreneur Fleur Childs helps us show you how to make it work.

It’s a good time to be a stylish pregnant mama. We’re seeing more and more bump-friendly stores and brands like Fourth Love and Hatch that are making it easier to think outside of the big maternity box we’ve spoken about here on WRNY. But, we all know there’s nothing quite like being able to respond, “it’s vintage…” when people ask where you got a certain item (especially when it’s really “second-hand,” and you paid, like, a dollar at a thrift store for it). Guess what? That belly doesn’t have to stop you.

We conducted an experiment with our good friend and co-founder of NYC’s The Artful Bachelorette — a tasteful, fun and creative option for your bachelorette celebration — Fleur Childs, who has some of the best vintage pieces of anyone I know. We took Fleur to my favorite neighborhood vintage spot, Horizons, where, despite the fact that she was well into her third trimester, it was hard to boil down just a few looks.

We made sure all of the pieces we chose had room to grow, and since we were not in a traditional maternity shop, we’re confident each would work well for post-pregnancy as well.

The vintage shop may just become your go-to maternity stop after taking a look at some of Fleur’s looks. So don’t walk — run to Horizons if you see a piece you like because, as you know, they’re one of a kind.

  1. I had the best time doing this shoot with one of my favorite mamas Miss Kaity and awesome photographer Evan. I only wish I had bought the white jumpsuit! Maybe it is still there…
