Roma Van Der Walt’s Pregnancy Style

Bump envy!

*We’ve partnered with Mom’s the Word to show off some serious pregnancy style.

Name: Roma Van der Walt
Neighborhood: Fort Greene, Brooklyn
Occupation: Prenatal / Postpartum Trainer
Baby’s Sex: Boy

How would you describe your pregnant style?
Very fitness oriented. Anything that allowed me to move my body while working with clients and be comfortable.

Have you had any challenges learning to dress your body during this pregnancy?
I found regular clothes more challenging than maternity fitness apparel, so it was difficult to embrace a more feminine side. Also because it was winter, I couldn’t just throw on a dress and call it a day. I learned over time that just wearing a bigger size top or expanding my regular jeans waistband wasn’t going to make me feel more beautiful, so I invested in a dress from Storq. And I love the jumpsuit from Mom’s the Word! It’s exactly my style.

So far, what has surprised you most during your pregnancy?
How many opinions everyone has on one’s body and decisions. I stayed very active, running and working, and some people thought that might be too much or I would give birth to a very small baby. But I got lucky. My body tolerated it very well, and it was invaluable for my sanity and health overall.

What are you most looking forward to sharing with your baby?
I’m originally from Germany, and I want to speak German with him. So I’m excited to see how that goes and to introduce him to some of my culture, kids stories and customs. Then as soon as possible I want to take him home to Europe and to take him to see my husband’s family in Australia, so he can be a beach baby for a bit — preferably next winter to escape the NYC cold for a short while.

What’s your top 5 registry essentials?
1. I LOVE the new Baby Björn carrier and am dying to try it.
2. As a trainer and runner, getting the Thule Urban Glide jogging stroller was a given.
3. My friend in New Zealand sent the baby some adorable clothes from Cotton on Kids that are also available in the US.
4. Little Unicorn feeding bibs.
5. Bottles. They will give me some freedom once I can pump, so I can go back to running and sleeping while my husband feeds.
