Well Rounded Wellness: Juice During Pregnancy

Your need to know tips before grabbing that juice.

In recent years, the cold pressed juice trend and raw juicing movement has become increasingly popular. However, during pregnancy, drinking raw juices could be detrimental to you and your fetus. Who knew a bunch of veggies & fruits pressed into a bottle could potentially be harmful? It’s primarily because of the potential harmful bacteria such as E.Coli, Listeria, and Salmonella. The bacteria likely originated from the soil or cross-contamination during the making of the juice.

However, there are two exceptions:

  • Flash Pasteurization – a method of heat pasteurization a.k.a “High Temperature, Short Time”
  • High Pressure Processing – a method of cold pasteurization where the juice (in this case) is already sealed in its final package, introduced into a vessel and subjected to a high level of pressure

Even if you were to select a juice that was characterized by this process (i.e. LUMI Organics or Bundle Organics), it’s important to understand that too much of anything is never any good. Juices contain sugar, so consumption in moderation is key.

Here are more of my tips on selecting a juice!
