5 Qs with Audrey

Bump Envy

Name: Audrey Goodson Kingo
Neighborhood: Williamsburg
Occupation: Editor in Chief of Earnshaw’s
Baby’s Sex: Boy

How would you describe your pregnant style?
I told my mother I want to look like a “sexy pregnant lady.” I have broad shoulders, so loose and flowy are not my friends. I gravitate toward basics like black skinny jeans  (thank goodness for stretch panels!) paired with pre-pregnancy wardrobe staples—say, a leather jacket  and statement boots.

Have you had any challenges learning to dress your body during pregnancy?
Before pregnancy, I loved versatile, sleek sheath dresses that could be dressed up or down with accessories. However, it’s not a silhouette that works well with a rapidly growing bump. I’ve tried to find pieces that are still form-fitting but give me room to grow, like the Boob Design dress  I’m wearing here. I also had to move up a bra size pretty quickly, so that’s been an adjustment. I decided to go ahead and start investing in nursing bras. Best decision ever! I love ones by Cake Lingerie—comfy but still sexy.

So far, what has surprised you most during your pregnancy?
How nice New Yorkers are to pregnant women! I’ve lived in the city for seven years, and this is the first time I’ve routinely gotten smiles and well wishes from strangers—not to mention a seat on the subway almost every day.

What’s been your favorite pregnancy piece or brand to show off your bump?
I live ASOS for dresses, but lately I’ve started shopping for stylish tops that transition from maternity to nursing wear by brands like Boob Design, Au Lait and Loyal Hana .

What NYC experience are you most looking forward to sharing with your baby?
Hanging out at McCarren and Prospect Park. And brunch. There are so many wonderful, baby-friendly brunch spots in our neighborhood. I’m originally from the South, so I can’t wait to introduce him to cheese grits. And we love going to the Rockaways  in the summer, so that’s definitely high on the list. In short, pretty much everything!
