Gender Reveal Sparked an $8 Million Wildfire

Well Rounded’s Weekly Links are here!

An infant pain med being a recalled, and a gender reveal party that went up in flames. Like, literally in flames. Plus, how you can get SJP to read tonight’s bedtime story to your kiddo! And how you can help a mother in need this holiday season. It’s all right here in our Weekly Links.

  1. A border agent accidentally started a massive wildfire at his gender reveal party after shooting a rifle at a target containing a colored powder to indicate the gender. The explosive substance was Tannerite, which ignites after being shot. The fire spread 47,000 acres, causing more than 100 to evacuate their homes, and now the dad-to-be has to pay more than $8 million in restitution. But YAY, IT’S A BOY! Watch the video here.
  2. A recall has been issued for Infant Ibuprofen sold at CVS, Walmart and Family Dollar. The manufacturer is concerned that the affected products may be too potent for infants to take. Check this list to find out if you should toss your little one’s pain medication.
  3. For the very first time, a woman who received a uterus transplant from a deceased donor gave birth to a healthy child, a team of Brazilian researchers announced on Tuesday! Aside from being a medical breakthrough, this novel transplantation procedure could be good news for those suffering from infertility. Learn more about it here.
  4. Sick of reading your kiddo’s favorite book for the 10,000th time this week? Let Sarah Jessica Parker take over. Or Helen Hunt. Or Meryl Streep, Forest Wittiker or Patrick Stewart. With Epic!’s digital library, you can listen as celebrities read your child’s favorite book so you can take the night off. Tonight, we’re thinking Brown Bear, Brown Bear. You got this, right, Gwenneth Paltrow?!
  5. This holiday season, the Peanut app, which connects mamas with other likeminded mamas, wants to help mothers give back to other moms in need. That is why they’ve teamed up with the charity organization Baby2Baby to launch the Santa is a Woman campaign. Through this initiative, Peanut users receive a box with a prepaid label that they can fill with essentials for an underserved mama. They then send it back, and Peanut does the rest. Sign up now to learn more.
  6. For this generation of toddlers, peanut butter and jelly just don’t cut it. Parents are epicureans who want to raise their own little gourmands, and baby food companies are happy to oblige, offering subscription boxes with menu items like lamb, couscous and mint puree. We love this piece in the Times about our current obsession with shaping our little one’s palates.
