The wear and tear of the daily grind can be enough to wear even the fiercest of us down. Add pregnancy and the holidays on top of that, and your physical and mental state can really take a beating. It’s nice to take a few moments to indulge in some quick beauty pick-me-ups to help revitalize our spirits when we’re at the end of our ropes. It doesn’t have to be overly expensive or fancy, just as long as it makes you feel good. And you don’t need to book a three hour massage (though if you can, go for it–that sounds freaking amazing!) to give yourself a breather from daily life and have a decent pamper. Your body and soul (and lil baby!) will thank you for it.
Here’s 3 spots where you can take a few moments for yourself, and you’ll come out feeling like a new woman.
- Pucker Makeup Studio. This full service makeup bar is the perfect pop-in to get your makeup done for a date-night or wedding, before a big meeting or a girls’ night, or just to feel better! They offer a full face of makeup for $60, but you can also choose to have only eye makeup or just skincare for less than that. They have a varied menu with add-ons that work for any budget and time-frame. Pucker offers a wide arrange of products, so you can specifically request natural and toxin-free (we spotted RMS! ) when you’re pregnant. The salon is a super comfortable, relaxed, and stress-free environment.
- Heyday. This facial studio is revolutionizing skincare. Located in Flatiron, they offer a 30 minute facial that you can extend with add-ons that are completely reasonably priced. That includes lasers, peels, scrubs— just about anything you can think of! All the products are natural, organic, and ethically made, including Naturopathica, Grown Alchemist, (which is Australian grade organic) and the Ormedic line from Image, which is gentle, organic, toxin-free and safe for your pregnancy. The peaceful and unpretentious salon comes equipped with the coolest chairs I’ve ever seen. They are completely adjustable so you can either lay flat, or as upright as you need, with five different movable parts to ensure maximum comfort depending on what stage of pregnancy you are at. This is a wonderful way to pamper your pregnancy skin that may be a bit hormonal and out of sorts, while also giving you a chance to relax and take care of yourself.
- Vive. This app makes it as easy as possible for you to get your blowouts. And I think we can all agree that there’s nothing better than having your hair professionally washed, am I right, ladies? When the stress of pregnancy is starting to make you feel tired and headachey, a good old fashioned shampoo can work wonders. Vive couldn’t be easier to use. You input your address into the app, along with when you want to get your blowout and they immediately schedule an appointment for you at the nearest salon. You’re charged monthly depending on the number of blowouts you want. Vive also ensures that all salons have a high standard of professionalism and use products that are high end, with an option to request products that are natural and safe for pregnancy — my own experience at Joli Beauty Bar was absolute heaven.
